Patch 4.2 Firelands Daily Quest Secrets Revealed: Preparation (Part 1 of 4)

June 22, 2011

Dailies

Patch 4.2 (currently scheduled for June 28th, 2011) heralds a new era of dailies for World of Warcraft players. Taking place in the Regrowth area of Mount Hyjal, these dailies combine aspects of former daily quest hubs including rotating quests, gated progression, and phasing. Unlike other daily quests, the new Firelands dailies of 4.2 are unlocked on an individual basis, meaning you have complete control over what you do and how you progress. It’s a great addition to the solo game at 85 and we’ve got everything you need to know to enjoy these quests and reap the rewards in our four part series: Patch 4.2 Firelands Daily Quest Secrets Revealed.

In part 1 we’re covering the basics. How do you access the dailies? What quests do you need to complete beforehand? And most importantly… Why should you care?

In fact, let’s start with the last one:

Firelands Daily Quest Rewards

Initially, you’re not given all that much for completing these quests, though right now they’re awarding 25g a pop on the PtR, so if you do these faithfully on several characters you can expect some quick gold for minimal effort. The real draw of these dailies is that they give you a brand new currency: Mark of the World Tree.

The link above shows you everything you ever wanted to know about Marks including how to obtain them and what they’re good for. We’re going to run a more detailed post on how best to spend your Marks (including choosing to aid the Druids of the Talon or the Shadow Wardens first), but for now here’s what you need to know:

1. You must spend Marks to open the second and third phases of dailies. The second phase costs only 20 Marks to unlock, but the third requires siding with the Druids of the Talon or the Shadow Wardens and shelling out 150 Marks for each.

2. You must spend Marks to open the inventory of each vendor. Once you have access to all three phases and have forked over 300 total Marks to the two factions (for a total of 320 spent unlocking all possible quests) you can buy from a total of 4 different vendors. These vendors sell various things including gear, recipes, pets, and mounts.

3. You need a total of 695 Marks to get the correct phasing and unlock all 4 vendors. After that you no longer need Marks; the vendor items are purchasable with gold.

But that’s a long ways off from patch day. As soon as 4.2 drops you’ll want to know where to go to pick up the pre-requisite quests. Yes, there are pre-reqs. But only a few, and they don’t take very long to complete. Just 6 quests and you’re on your way to unlocking Phase One of the Firelands dailies.

Pre-Quests

Before you begin: You must be Level 85 and have completed Aessina’s Miracle in Mount Hyjal to receive the quest for the dailies. This quest is about midway through the zone’s storyline and, when completed, phases you in to a new Hyjal that’s lush and green. If you’ve done nothing in Mount Hyjal, it should only take you a couple of hours at the most to reach this point.

If you’re already done Aessina’s Miracle you can just follow this guide for obtaining and finishing the pre-quests needed to open up Phase One of the Firelands dailies.

Estimated Time to Complete: 1hr

Total Quests: 6

Total Gold: 83g

Total Marks of the World Tree: 8

1. Guardians of Hyjal: Firelands Invasion! (A) or Guardians of Hyjal: Firelands Invasion! (H)

Though you can accept this quest from any Hero’s Call or Warchief’s Command Board, you’ll save some time by grabbing it from Stormwind or Orgrimmar respectively. Mount up and take the Hyjal portal to Nordrassil, then fly southwest from there to reach Matoclaw at the Sanctuary of Malorne.

2. Opening the Door

The goal of these pre-quests is to summon Malorne, Elune’s stag bedfellow, Cenarius’ father, and all-around badass. You’ll be enlisting the help of Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem and Malfurion Stormrage to do it, and this quest just sends you a quick hop away to Nordune Ridge, literally right next to the Sanctuary of Malorne.

3. A Ritual of Flame

Eat a biscuit or something before you accept this quest, as – shockingly enough – you’ll soon come under attack. You’ll want to make sure you’re at full health or mana (as applicable) and in a questing-capable spec before you do this one. Once you accept, an indicator will appear on your screen. Every time you kill an attacking Charred Invader, the indicator will fill up a bit.

Your goal here is to kill the Charred Invaders and fill the indicator, which essentially means the ritual is complete. Once you do this, a very pissed off Druid of the Flame will appear and start beating on you. She’s an elite, but Hamuul and Malfurion will help you take her down. When she retreats, you can turn in the quest.

4. To the Sanctuary!

Apparently Hamuul and Malfurion are both very soft-spoken individuals and can’t communicate with Matoclaw, who is in yelling distance. Fly back down to the Sanctuary of Malorne and deliver the news to him yourself.

5. Caught Unawares

This one’s a bit more involved. Three of your former acquaintances from Mount Hyjal have gotten themselves trapped by fire and – naturally – it’s your job to save them. Not only do you have to locate them, but you’ll need to kill 6 elementals near each NPC before it’s safe for them to leave.

The easiest way to do this is open your map and look for the quest dot, then start heading toward it. Most likely you’ll get sent to the Regrowth near Ashen Lake. Keep an eye on your screen and look for the big blue indicators that inform you of the NPC’s presence. Land near them, kill 6 elementals, and get credit for each before returning to Matoclaw at the Sanctuary of Malorne.

For quick reference, Thisalee is at 24.44, 55.73, Elderlimb is at 34.10, 57.33, and Tholo and Anren are at 40.34 and 56.96.

6. The Sanctuary Must Not Fall

Eat another biscuit, because it’s time to help Malfurion summon Malorne! Or rather, it’s time to defend Malfurion from wave after wave of enemies trying to stop him from summoning Malorne. You’ll receive a buff while doing this, as well as some help from the NPCs around you. Elementals will converge from all sides and you’ll need to hold them off.

Eventually Lord Rhyolith will appear and try to squash you. Fortunately for you, Malfurion will have finished summoning Malorne, and apparently Rhyolith has a deathly fear of stags because he books it back to the Firelands, leaving you free to turn in the quest and unlock Phase One of the Firelands daily quests.

hi i like the daylie quests already buth i have a question thats bottering and its a rumor that goes around that chaos orbs will be tradeable or acc bound is this true or not

    • Courtney Says:

Hi there – While there are plans to make Chaos Orbs something other than BoP, to the best of my knowledge that will NOT occur in 4.2 unfortunately. Chaos Orbs remain BoP on the 4.2 PTR right now.

To answer the Last Call, I’m interested in seeing how these will play out. I definitely want to pick up the new Engineering patterns and of course the new gear, so it’s an incentive to do them. But I’m notoriously bad at doing dailies even when I need to, so I’m hoping these will be entertaining enough to keep me interested.
